Conrad lifted his hand to open the door to his bedroom and before he even made contact with the knob he knew someone was inside. His other hand moved to the hilt of his sword and he turned to his side to create less of a target. With a gentle twist and push, light from the hallway filtered in to illuminate his chambers.

Everything was in order from the neatly lined books on his shelf to the maps folded neatly in a pile on his writing desk just as he had left it. There were only two changes that he could see from the doorway. The first was that the heavy, grey-blue curtains had been drawn closed. The second was the boy sitting in his bed, whom he could only confirm was half dressed at best.

“Geika,” he said calmly as he pulled the door closed behind him, pausing to ensure it was completely latched. “Is anything the matter with your accommodations in the shrine?”

“I have no complaints,” Murata replied as he pushed his glasses upward. The light from the candle Conrad was igniting caught them for a moment, casting a reflection on the wall.

“Good. His majesty wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable.” The soldier bent low to stimulate the smoldering logs in the fireplace. There was no chill to the air, but it was good to have a task to perform—something to keep the hands busy.

“Shibuya cares about a lot of people, but I think he may be distracted lately.”

The brunet hummed a noncommittal sound as he slowly straightened again. There was no need to ask what the sage’s words had meant. Things had changed in the last month. The chaotic, tenuous balance, which had existed since Yuuri’s arrival, had tilted.

There had been no formal proclamation and the signs were subtle enough to miss if you weren’t keenly aware what you should be looking for. It wouldn’t be long before the news would slip out. It was something of a miracle that so few understood the difference between them. Yuuri and Wolfram had become involved.

Their romance was far from smooth or ideal, but the one-sided attraction had become mutual and Murata and Conrad were the first to know, before the king himself. But they wouldn’t be discussing it.

“Can I offer you anything?” Conrad asked as he poured himself a glass of something clear. Murata wondered at its contents for a moment, but thought better of it.

“You can always offer,” said smiling lips.

Filling another glass, he handed it to the sage who sipped what he found to be cool, refreshing water after all. “Thank you.”

“You are welcome.” The prince set his own glass down on the nightstand and unbuttoned his jacket, hanging it up for the night before removing his belt. He made no attempt to hide himself from the visiting sage, nor did he go out of his way to reveal himself.

He pulled his undershirt over his head and folded it before unfastening his pants and letting them fall to the floor. Wearing only a snug, black, royal pair of underwear he returned to the bed.

When he pulled back the covers he could see Murata was in a similar state of dress. His trademark smile didn’t waver as he crawled into bed next to the younger, wiser man.

“Good night, Geika.”

“Yes, I think it will be.”

That was nice. And I don't mean that in the generic, noncommittal sense of the word.

I mean, that was nice. :)

Yes, it sounds like it will be a good night. So where is the continuation of what promises to be a scintillating evening.
