Quiet Moments
The castle had never known such a peaceful time. The paperwork sat in small, manageable piles, the servants were bustling about in a cheerful ease, the village was relaxed and safe, the nobles were enjoying afternoon strolls and lavender lemonade. The reign of Maou Yuuri was as bright and successful as Gunter always loudly and emphatically claimed it would be. And yet, his prowess as a king was not the only reason for such a happy and smoothly running society.
It seemed that the once tumultuous and tenuous royal relationship--aka prime maid gossip--had resolved itself to the same peaceful terms everyone and everything else was enjoying. There were no more screaming matches or calls of “CHEATER!” blaring in the corridors. In truth, the unlikely couple had never looked so sweet.
There were times even Conrad would appear in the doorway to their room and his trademark smile sat firmly on his lips--perhaps a bit more genuine and a degree warmer than usual.
The blonde and his doting, dark-haired companion would spend long hours in their bed. Yuuri talk and laugh and feed Wolfram and read him stories when he had the time. And when he didn’t, Wolfram didn’t say a thing about Yuuri’s travels over the countryside where he would meet new and interesting men and women--eligible or otherwise. Wolfram wouldn’t even get up if he heard Yuuri was going to be attending a function without him and dinning next to any number of lovely lord and lady.
Yes, it was a peaceful time in Shin Makoku.
Of course, the body cast and jaw wiring mechanism would have to come off eventually. It really was a shame about Anissina’s last experiment and the “accident.”
