Julia liked the way people saw her. It was exactly what she wanted them to see.

Confidence. Compassion. Reliability.

She wanted people to need her. If people depended on her then her sightlessness couldn’t be a burden.

So when Ulrike said the Shinou needed her, she was ready. There were no regrets then. She was making the ultimate sacrifice for the people whom she had needed to need her.

Later, watching them, but apart from them, it surprised her how much they honestly missed her.

It was too late to change her mind, but not too late to regret it.

Ouch. That was a punch in the gut. (But in a good way.) I like the way that you've shown an aspect of Julia that I normally wouldn't have imagined, and yet it still fits her canon characterization perfectly.
