jazzthejazz for three years now. Happy Anniversary!
Their first anniversary had been about flowers. Alford had practically plucked the gardens dry, creating a rainbow path from their bedroom of every shape and color of flower to the music room which was filled to overflowing with the beautiful blooms. They’d spent the evening dancing and the night making love and then having sex and then making love again. They fell asleep more or less at the end of round four. Alford was still inside his husband when they woke up, sticky and covered in petals.
Their second anniversary was about food. Alford had baked, sautéed, cooked, boiled, roasted, grilled, poached, and otherwise applied heat to food stuffs for the better part of two days prior to the appointed day. One afternoon was less productive than the rest as Rad had been less than patient, waiting for his husband to show him as much attention as he was showing the kitchen. Later, the maids would wonder why there were flour footprints on the ceiling.
The meal itself was resplendent and there were leftovers enough for the entire castle for more than one meal. Yuuri had encouraged Alford and Rad to celebrate at least once a month.
That night had ended with Conrad providing the dessert. He didn’t eat sweets, but he wore them well and Alford declared dark chocolate tasted better on his thigh than in any pastry.
Now, it was time for the third anniversary and already Alford felt he’d run out of ways to top the first two. He seriously considered just combining the flowers and food, but it seemed to lack creativity. He asked for suggestions from all the usual suspects, but answers like being yourself or just going on a picnic seemed lackluster in comparison to both the past and Alford’s affections to the brown haired, brown eyed half-breed.
The days ticked away and still he was no closer to finding a solution to his dilemma. On the eve of their anniversary he stayed up all night sketching out ideas each more lavish and ridiculous than the next. He fell asleep at his desk with a quill in his hand and a book under his cheek, leaving a description of how to fold origami birds on his cheek.
When he awoke he was surprised to find himself in bed alone. He couldn’t remember moving and furthermore he couldn’t remember what plan he had finally settled upon, and the day had already arrived.
He sat up quickly, wondering if there was still time to carve an ice sculpture when their door opened and Conrad stepped inside with a tray of breakfast foods.
“Happy anniversary, Butterfly,” said the older man as he set the tray down over Alford’s lap and kissed him softly.
“Conrad, I’m so sorry, I haven’t…”
“Shhh…it’s my turn. I would have said something, but it was cute watching you come up with ideas. What exactly were you planning to do with 70 white doves again?” He laughed lightly as he got into bed with his husband.
“Well, Yuuri had mentioned an Earth custom…” he trailed off sheepishly. “Your turn?”
“You aren’t the only one who can plan an anniversary. Mine might not be as fancy, but as long as we are together does it really matter?”
The human smiled at his husband, partner, and lover before replying with a long, slow kiss.
It turned out the third anniversary was just about love.

Date: 2008-07-19 12:38 am (UTC)What a sweet and adorable little story. Cute and fluffy and yet amusing, with things like: the maids would wonder why there were flour footprints on the ceiling. and leaving a description of how to fold origami birds on his cheek.
. Did I mention yummy, too? Alford declared dark chocolate tasted better on his thigh than in any pastry. I'll bet...
I squealed when finding this post because anything involving the awesome Conrad that you write is bound to make me squeal. I've become quite the fangirl and the regular, canon!Conrad really does seem rather bland (von Boring!) compared to the character you've created. *looks forward to more OOC Conrad in the RPG*

Date: 2008-07-20 02:10 pm (UTC)Although I'm going to publicly admit my ignorance of popular culture and say that I, like the maids, have never understood how anyone could get footprints on a ceiling. *shrugs*
And I love the last line.
Gah, now I'm even more wibbly about the Conrart/Alford piece I just posted! *is nervous*
