He thought if only he could make his uncle like him then people like Yozak would be safe and no one would call him names anymore.
It was innocent enough at first. He would smile at the older man with blond hair much dinger looking than his mother’s. Then he would do nice things for him like carrying heavy things or bringing him lemonade.
He thought if he could just make him see that he was a good boy. He thought if he could just make him smile…
Conrad left Stoffel’s chambers late one night, realizing he had thought wrong.
