The din from the crowd below made it difficult to think, let alone have a conversation. Of course, what would he even say to these two men? There were few individuals more equipped to speak naturally with them--he was a prince and fiance to the Maou--but even Wolfram who was almost never at a loss for words found himself dumb in the Shinous’ presence.

He could hear the vast throngs of people below. Nothing was clear and distinct as their voices rose up together in cacophony. The young noble took a step closer to the railing when a hand came to rest upon his shoulder. It seemed as though his body froze in place. For just a split second even his internal organs seemed to collectively gasp and pause at the touch. Turning slowly, he looked up into the one called, Aki’s, violet eyes. It was strange how this timeless man made a cool color seem to almost burn.

“Not yet.”

But the powerful voice didn’t come from the one whose hand was already sliding off his small shoulder. Why did he have to have such diminutive stature anyway? Gwendal and Conrad both had broad, strong shoulders. How his mother always called him the lucky one was beyond him.

“Soon though. I wish to have this ritual concluded shortly,” Aki replied to the original Shinou. It was odd that he came to be known as the original Original King, but there had to be some way to differentiate between the two, and calling Aki the nice Shinou seemed to be in bad taste.

“Agreed,” the one entangled within the shadows stated. It was less like an actual agreement and more like a command somehow, but then most of his words sounded like that. It really impressed Wolfram. Maybe it was something he could practice with Yuuri for the next time they played Shinou and the innocent peasant girl. He would be the Shinou this time! After all, he had the hair for it.

Speaking of the hair...

Trumpets blared from behind them to announce to the massive crowd below that the ceremony was commencing. It was too soon! He wasn’t ready! His mother wasn’t even here and this whole affair was her fault! Why didn’t he sneak away like Wolfy? If his brothers loved him the way Rad loved Wolfy this wouldn’t be happening! He’s too young. He’s too pretty. No! No! No!

But the guards with trumpets were moving closer and the Shinous were behind him and soon he was swept up into the event. His chest was pressed up against the railing with Aki close behind, towering over him. The man leaned down and spoke calmly against the shell of his ear. “It is your duty, your payment to the people as a head of state. Now, remove your shirt and wave.”

Wolfram’s hand shook a little as he began unbuttoning the lilac shirt. He really hated this holiday--National Admire a Blonde Day indeed.
